Dean Petersen has over 25 years of construction and project management experience. After earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Engineering from Iowa State University, he became a San Diego resident in 1985.
Mr. Petersen brings to Irving Hughes/CM a strong knowledge of project cost estimating and control, scheduling, quality control, contract administration, and construction means and methods. These skills, combined with over 20 years in the local construction market, offer clients a wealth of information in evaluating their options during leasing, design and construction.
Before joining Irving Hughes/CM, Petersen served as a senior project manager with Johnson & Jennings where he was responsible for special projects and high-end tenant improvements. Previously, he was a project manager with Swinerton & Walberg and director of tenant improvements and project manger at Koll Construction. During this time, he has been responsible for the management of over 3 ½ million square feet of construction valued in excess of $100 million.
Mr. Petersen’s notable tenant improvement projects include: Cooley Godward ($9.5 million, 135,000 sf); Jenny Craig International Corporate HQ Remodel ($700,000, 32,000 sf); HNC Software ($1.7 million, 40,000 sf); T I and data center for DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary, LLP ($6.2 million, 95,000 sf); Latham & Watkins ($4.5 million, 100,000 sf); LSI Logic ($1 million, 30,000 sf), Best Best & Krieger ($1.5 million, 35,000 sf); Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves and Savitch ($3.7 million, 50,000 sf); NTD Stichler Architects ($1.1 million, 27,500 sf); Dunham & Associates ($1.2 million, 39,000 sf) and Wilson, Sonsini, Goodrich & Rosati ($1.6 million, 27,000 sf).
In addition, his ground up and renovation examples include: ground up and historical building remodel for Francis Parker Lower School ($8 million, 35,000 sf); ground up, renovations and tenant improvements for Maxwell Technologies ($6.3 million, 125,000 sf); and site renovations and building remodel for the Lindberg Field Commuter Terminal ($5.7 million, 60,000 sf).
Mr. Petersen has been an active fundraiser for the Child Abuse Prevention Foundation and Big Brothers and Big Sisters of San Diego for over 10 years. He also has years of service to Little League baseball and ASA junior softball programs.
Mr. Petersen, his wife Jane, and their two children reside in San Carlos.
