As Principal of Irving Hughes/CM, Kirt H. Gilliland has over 20 years of construction and project management experience. A resident of San Diego since 1963, Mr. Gilliland earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Southern California.

After returning to San Diego from college, Mr. Gilliland worked in the construction industry as a project engineer, project superintendent, project manager and finally as director of tenant improvements for a large Southern California general contractor. Notable projects completed by Mr. Gilliland during this 10-year period included the three City of San Diego projects comprising over 450,000 square feet of tenant improvements and building upgrades in three separate buildings.

In 1995, Mr. Gilliland joined Irving Hughes as Vice President of Project Management. His skills and knowledge of construction and the local market provide a valuable tool for Irving Hughes during lease negotiations and work letter review, as well as for our clients during the design and construction phase of their transaction. His experience includes estimating, competitive bidding, construction scheduling, owner/subcontractor contract administration, site inspection and evaluations.

Mr. Gilliland has managed over 4.7 million square feet of projects valued in excess of $210 million. Among the notable projects are: the 165,000 square foot build-to-suit corporate headquarters for AMN Healthcare; the 100,000 square foot build-to-suit corporate headquarters for Newgen Results Corporation; the 100,000 square foot build-to-suit engineering building for AMCC; the 75,000 square foot build-to-suit corporate headquarters for MC Direct; the 35,000 square foot $8 million build-to-suit project for Francis Parker School; the 140,000 square foot laser manufacturing facility for Cymer Laser; the 178,000 square foot Golden Eagle Insurance headquarters in downtown San Diego, the 198,000 square foot manufacturing facility for Qtron in Poway; the new 135,000 square foot Law Offices for Cooley Godward, LLP in UTC and the 194,000 square foot corporate headquarters for Sharp Healthcare in Kearny Mesa.

Mr. Gilliland has been an active board member of the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of San Diego for over 12 years and has chaired several major fundraisers for the organization. He is also coaches in both youth softball and baseball.

Mr. Gilliland, his wife Tiffany, and their two children live in Rancho Bernardo.
